Global Electronics Management (GEM) Program Child Project in Cambodia

Cambodia’s EEE sector is rapidly growing, but limited circular practices and weak e-waste management are increasing environmental and public health risks from POPs, mercury, and other hazardous substances.

The project promotes a circular electronics value chain by strengthening policies, innovation, resource efficiency, reuse, repair, recycling, and stakeholder collaboration while reducing hazardous waste and chemicals.

The project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and hazardous chemicals while improving public health, strengthening the informal sector, and enhancing livelihoods.

The project is organized around four components as follows:

1. Enabling policies on circular economy for electronics;

2. Cleaner production and sustainable consumption and use;

3. Resource-efficient value chain across the electronics sector; and

4. Knowledge management, communication, and program-level coordination.

The project is funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The Implementing Partner for this project is the Ministry of Environment (MOE). United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as the GEF agency for this project, will play an oversight role.
