Danmission is a faith-based development organization from Denmark, operating in 12 countries with approximately 70 staff worldwide. Danmission has been engaged in Cambodia since the mid-1990s, covering livelihood issues, peacebuilding and civil society development. In 2013, Danmission opened a country office and became registered with the Royal Government of Cambodia as a non-profit humanitarian organization. At present, six staff members are employed at Danmission’s Regional Office.

Danmission is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Communication Officer. The European Union has awarded Danmission a five-year grant to implement an action entitled Citizens Engaged in Environmental Justice for All (CEEJA). The action is implemented by a well-established consortium consisting of Danmission, a number of Cambodian NGOs, the University of Copenhagen, the International Forest Resources and Carbon Emissions Unit of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, and several local forestry networks. The action will empower Cambodian citizens to access environmental justice through protection of their forests and biodiversity conservation

Communication Officer

Position Summary

Purpose of the position:

The Communication Officer is responsible for implementing the CEEJA Communication and Visibility Plan, creating engagement through social media content as well as producing concrete communication and visibility products for CEEJA. In addition, the Communication Officer is responsible for collecting stories related to the work of Danmission partners and assisting specific partners with external communication tasks.

It is a part-time position for 30 hours per week.

This is a national position.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Specifically, s/he is responsible for:
  • Implement the CEEJA Communication, Visibility and Dissemination Plan and develop a detailed action plan.
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy, including day-to-day management of social media platforms.
  • Assist in developing a visibility identity for CEEJA.
  • Coordinate regular online boosting campaigns.
  • Coordinate production of small films for social media platforms.
  • Design and coordinate production of various visibility materials and merchandise.
  • Coordinate communication and visibility work with consortium partners, as well as planning and performing training of partners, as relevant.
  • Take photos and videos, produce visibility materials, and serve as the media contact person in relation to public events.
  • Proactively pitch ideas to the Danmission Department of Communication & Engagement about Danmission supported projects, collect information and write stories as relevant.
  • Assist specific partners with external communication tasks including writing stories for social media platforms.
  • Establish and maintain external media relations, both locally and regionally.
  • Write and edit articles, press releases, etc. in English and Khmer.
  • Contribute to the overall reporting (M&E) on communication activities related to Danmission’s active programs
  • Management of the annual communication and visibility budget.
  • Other tasks as relevant.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Professional competences:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of previous experience with communication work, including previous experiences with developing various communication and visibility products.
  • Able to plan, design and produce creative social media content, including short videos.
  • Experience with photography and video editing.
  • Experience with promoting awareness on environmental issues.
  • Full proficiency in English and Khmer.
  • Ability to work with grassroots groups.
  • Personal competences:
  • Visionary, with a passion for communication, and an eye for the good story.
  • Ability to seize and exploit unexpected opportunities to communicate and disseminate results.
  • Ability to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with partners.
  • Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team. Must also be able to create supportive relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Willing and able to travel in CEEJA target areas.
  • Adhere to Danmission’s core values based on Christian principles
  • Must be flexible, willing to perform other duties and on occasion to work irregular hours.
