Assignment and Objectives

Assignment

SmartAgro is seeking a local agronomist to support and promote the use of cover/fodder crops for sustainable crop and cattle management to clients’ farms. The agronomist will be expected to support the implementation of CA practices to farmers and the sales of cover crops seeds in particular through collecting information and meeting with farmers, tractor owners, input suppliers and retailers and support the uptake of CA practices.

The period of this assignment is from March 2021 to 31 December 2021.

Objective

The objectives of the assignment are:

  1. To promote the use of different cover crops to boost soil fertility and forage crops for cattle raising to farmers through meetings and collective learning events in targeted provinces, and identify natural and organic farm owners and key lead farmers in targeted regions.
  2. To provide support and monitoring on the trial demonstration farms.
  3. To assist the conduction of collective learning events for farmers.

Deliverables

  • Weekly update and Monthly work plan
  • Monthly progressive report

Duration and timing of assignment

The consultancy will start 01 March 2021

Remuneration

The individual consultant will be hired by SA according to regulations that will be specified in a separate contract.

Duties
  • Scope of Work
  • Task 1: Attend technical training with partners as required.
  • Task 2: Assist in data collection process; directly interview farmers and stakeholders.
  • Task 3: Perform monitoring and collect measurement data of the trial plots.
  • Task 4: Input data information into digital platform/app assigned by SA.
  • Task 5: Identify potential farmers to use cover crops and forage crops and input retailers.
  • Task 6: Identify potential locations for conducting demonstration trials and workshops based on the selection criteria.
  • Task 7: Monitor the networks of lead farmers/potential farms and regularly follow up implementation.
  • Task 8: Prepare monthly work plan, implement the activities and report under the leading of partners.
  • Task 9: Send weekly updates and monthly reports to SA
  • Task 10: Perform other duties as required by partners.
Requirements
  • Requested skills set
  • Experience in working with the public and private sector, and other local stakeholders such as village chief, farmers
  • Willing to travel to villages in the provinces and work closely with project partners
  • Good understanding of agriculture context in Cambodia is preferred
  • Good communication skills in Khmer and English
  • Very good interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer literacy especially on Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel and willing to work with digital platforms and technology
  • Be precise, accurate and detail oriented with documentation and data entering
