Volunteer Building Cambodia is a Khmer-run non-government organisation (NGO) with the core purpose to improve living conditions for Cambodian people in need. VBC also runs a Community Centre, 25 kilometres from Siem Reap, providing English classes to rural students.

VBC is seeking Khmer nationals to fill for the position below.

Social Worker

Duties
  • Help choose families for the project with field workers, making sure they meet requirements.
  • Keep an eye on families in the project and do impact assessments with the project officer.
  • Extend the connections between VBC and the communities and able to see the community needs.
Requirements
  • Kind, good at communicating, able to understand family needs, and have good English skills is an advantage.
 

Building Manager

Founded by local Khmer man, Sinn Meang in 2014, Volunteer Building Cambodia is a wonderful organization that provides poor families in rural Siem Reap with much needed housing, wells, water pumps and toilet facilities. VBC builds solid houses for extremely poor families who lack the resources to build their own liveable homes. They do so after undertaking a thorough assessment of a diverse range of clients to ensure the most needy receive attention.

The role of Building Manager is critical to the ongoing success of VBC and will oversee operational building management, future developments of all building activities within VBC. The Building Manager will, ensure that daily operations run smoothly and all parties work collaboratively in a clean, safe, secure and positive environment. The Building Manager will work closely with a range of stakeholders including the Managing Director, Projects and Finance Officers, Builders, Social Workers and Volunteer Coordinators.

  • Salary: Please indicate expected salary range
  • Location: Siem Reap, but will require travel to villages outside Siem Reap city
  • Schedule: Full time, 5 ½ days a week.
Duties
  • Ensure all building materials and equipment are ready for each volunteer build and that the builders are briefed on their responsibilities for each week;
  • Ensure safe building practice on each building site for volunteers, VBC staff and local people assisting with the build;
  • Building materials are sourced at the most competitive prices;
  • Ensure building material stock is efficiently managed;
  • Ensure efficient use of building materials;
  • Improve and develop VBC’s building practices and use of building materials;
  • Ensure consistent building standards on each house or toilet build;
  • Managing builders and warehouse staff;
  • Other ad hoc project and reporting tasks as required.
Requirements
  • 5+ years building experience;
  • Experience in managing staff
  • Prior experience working with stakeholder groups including (Commune chiefs, Village chiefs, the Community, NGO’s, others),
  • Independent, organised and flexible work approach
  • Excellent spoken and written Khmer is essential and a working knowledge of English would be desirable.
