For the implementation of the regional project “Consumer Protection in ASEAN” (PROTECT) in Cambodia, we are seeking for a candidate for the position of Economic Cooperation and Private Sector Advisor (national candidate), based in Phnom Penh.
Within the framework ASEAN-German cooperation in the area of Regional Economic Integration (ASEAN REI), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is currently implementing several projects and one among those projects is “Consumer Protection in ASEAN” (PROTECT) was commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany. The overarching objective of the project is to help strengthen the consumer protection regimes in selected ASEAN Member States (AMS), through support at both the regional and national levels. The so-called CLV countries – Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam – are the primary beneficiaries of the project support, along with Indonesia and the Philippines. Efforts towards regional dialogue and cooperation are shepherded by the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP), another main project partner of PROTECT.
In Cambodia, PROTECT supports its main government counterpart, the Consumer Protection, Competition, and Fraud Repression Directorate-General (CCF) under the Ministry of Commerce. The Law on Consumer Protection was enacted in November 2019 and the National Commission for Consumer Protection (NCCP) was established in August 2020. These achievements are aligning with the ACCP initiatives and based on the commitment defined in the ASEAN Strategic Action Plan for Consumer Protection 2016-2025 (ASAPCP) support the ASEAN Member States (AMS) establishing legislative frameworks.
The Advisor will support the project with technical knowledge and will be responsible for coordination of the project implementation towards the achievement of the program’s contractual targets in Cambodia, aiming that the country-specific program targets are met.
