Mangrove Tenure Project Lead

Status: 6-Month Consultancy, with possible extension or renewal

Reports to: Landesa’s Southeast Asia Program Senior Land Tenure Specialist

Location: Cambodia

This position is open for Cambodian Nationals only and it is preferred that the successful candidate be willing to be based in Kampot Province or Sihanoukville. A modest housing stipend is negotiable.

Duties
  • Act as primary liaison between Landesa and the Kampot provincial government and relevant district and local government authorities
  • Lead design of research methodologies and field work plan, and facilitate orientation of team for effective data collection; conduct key informant interviews and focus group discussions to identify coastal tenure needs, following Landesa’s ethical research guidelines; facilitate reflections and analysis of lessons learned and challenges in the data collection process; act as lead drafter on reports of research findings
  • Coordinate closely with Landesa colleagues in Southeast Asia and the United States to better understand pro-poor land rights, women’s land rights, and mangrove tenure rights
  • Maintain a leadership role in developing workplans, conducting field work, analyzing findings, and meeting deadlines related to report production and dissemination
  • Help organize and support general Landesa trainings, workshops, and other events
  • Undertake other tasks as directed by Landesa’s Southeast Asia Program Land Tenure Specialist
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of relevant leadership experience in community AND government engagement AND mangrove-related livelihoods, coastal fisheries, and/or sustainability work
  • Experience in conducting qualitative research and writing formal reports in English
  • A deep commitment to the mission of a better, safer future for women, men, and the planet through sustainable land ownership and secure land rights
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
  • High level of integrity, with ability to maintain confidential information and make decisions that reflect high ethical standards
  • Self-starting attitude and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Gender sensitivity and commitment to the empowerment of vulnerable farmers, including ethnic and religious minorities and Indigenous Peoples
  • Experience in land rights and/or women’s rights preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically
