ESTIMATEAD WORK PERIOD: August 28, 2023 – December 14, 2023

He/she will provide ongoing support to both host families and PCTs/LCFs. Additionally, as the Site Coordinator, he/she will be the primary liaison at the training site between the training staff and school officials, local authorities, and other community resources in the district training sites. He/she communicates with the Language and Cultural Coordinator (LCC), Technical Trainers, and PST Director (PSTD) on a regular basis and attend all PST logistical meetings. The HSC operates under the direct guidance and supervision of the PST Director (PSTD).

Duties
  • Identifies potential host families and ensures that they all are visited, assessed, and evaluated against the selection criteria. Further ensures that all Trainee host families have had an orientation and an opportunity to ask questions about their responsibilities.
  • Mediates and resolves housing issues as they arise between Trainees and host families or landlords in consultation with the Training Manager, Director of Programming and Training, Core PST staff, and other Training Staff, as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and complete files on host families (contact information, interview/ assessment forms, questionnaires, list of host families to use and not use again, etc.) and shares with Programming, Training, Medical, and Safety and Security staff as appropriate.
  • Liaises with local authorities, school officials, and community members for different training activities and events.
  • Mobilizes community resources for training activities.
Requirements
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Along with meeting the qualifications below, candidates must be able to obtain a security certification from the U.S. Government which requires a national identity card, birth certificate, school certificate, and other supporting documents.
  • Requirements:
  • University degree.
  • Experience related to administrative/logistical support.
  • Experience working with local authorities at the district level.
  • Native proficiency in written and spoken Khmer and high proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to live in the selected rural community during the entire period of employment.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • One or more years of experience teaching English.
  • One or more years of experience teaching adults.
  • One or more years of experience teaching Khmer to foreigners.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.

LCFs live and work closely with a small group of American Peace Corps Trainees throughout Pre-Service Training. LCFs conduct Khmer language classes and help small groups of 5-6 Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) learn Cambodian culture and the skills needed to live in Cambodia. They must follow a prescribed curriculum and effectively use a variety of language training techniques and methodologies. LCFs serve as a prime bridge between the Trainees and their host families and training communities. LCFs also participate in the evaluation of the language training program.

REPORTING

The LCF operates under the direct guidance and supervision of the Language and Cross-Cultural Coordinator (LCC) under the ultimate supervision of the PST Director.

Duties
  • Writes or modifies daily language lesson plans using Peace Corps Cambodia’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) design and sends them to the LCC for approval before classes.
  • Conducts language classes, making appropriate lesson modifications based upon the learning needs of the Trainees and feedback received from them.
  • Prepares all necessary materials, visual aids, activities, worksheets independently and/or under the guidance of the LCC.
  • Helps Trainees to acquire cross-cultural knowledge and skills by acting as a language and cultural information liaison, by integrating cultural situations and discussions into language classes, and creating opportunities for Trainees to interact and ask questions in an open and unthreatening forum.
  • Submits weekly progress report regarding Trainee progress in language acquisition and cultural understanding. Provides timely and regular feedback to Trainees on progress in language, intercultural competency, and other areas. Makes recommendations regarding Trainee language proficiency at the end of the training program.
  • Assists Trainees in practicing language learning outside the classroom, especially language that relates to safety and cultural integration; encourages Trainees to interact with community members, establish contacts with institutions, and obtain resources at the local level.
  • Assures appropriate technical vocabulary/language has been covered before field trips and school visits and facilitates practice of technical Language. Asks for assistance from trainers if necessary background materials have not been provided in a timely manner.

  • University degree, equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in education, teaching, or related field.
  • One year of experience teaching in Cambodia.
  • Native proficiency in written and spoken Khmer, high proficiency in written and spoken English, and ability to use English as an instructive language.
  • Willingness to live in the selected rural community during the entire period of employment.

REPORTING

The TTA plans and facilitates sessions with the Technical Trainers and operates under the direct guidance and supervision of the PST Director (PSTD).

Duties
  • Coordinates with the TEFL Technical Trainer and the Language and Cultural Facilitators (LCFs) to plan and deliver appropriate technical sessions.
  • Supports technical sessions by building good relationships within the community and mobilizes support from community officials and members.
  • Supports the Technical Trainer by providing Khmer cultural perspective during planning and facilitation.
  • Coordinates with Language and Cultural Facilitator (LCF) to conduct technical language classes for the trainees.
  • With the Technical Trainer, make appropriate lesson modifications based upon the learning needs of the Trainees and feedback received from them.
  • Helps Trainees to acquire cross-cultural knowledge and skills by acting as a language and cultural information liaison by integrating cultural situations and discussions into language classes and creating opportunities for Trainees to interact and ask questions in an open and unthreatening forum.
  • Submits progress reports regarding Trainee progress in language acquisition and cultural understanding. Provides timely and regular feedback to Trainees on progress in language, intercultural competency, and other areas. Makes recommendations regarding Trainee language proficiency at the end of the training program.
  • Facilitates appropriate technical Khmer vocabulary/language instruction and practice before community-based learning activities and school visits. Asks for assistance from trainers if necessary background materials have not been provided in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Along with meeting the qualifications below, candidates must be able to obtain a security certification from the U.S. Government which requires a national identity card, birth certificate, school certificate, and other supporting documents.
  • Requirements:
  • University degree, equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in education, teaching, or related field.
  • Five years teaching in a Cambodian public school.
  • Experience designing, leading, or delivering technical, cultural, or language training.
  • Native proficiency in written and spoken Khmer, high proficiency in written and spoken English, and ability to use English as an instructive language.
  • Willingness to live in the selected rural community during the entire period of employment.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • One or more years of management experience in an educational context, such as with a school or education program.
  • One or more years of experience working in a leadership capacity with new professionals and/or new teachers.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Flexible, motivated, and self-directed working style.
  • Prior experience working in an international organization and/or experience living abroad in a cross-cultural setting.
  • An advanced degree in TEFL/TESOL, Education, Training, or other related field.
  • Preference will be given to candidates residing in Cambodia or who are citizens of Cambodia at the time of application and who are legally able to work within the country.
