Biomedical Engineer

Position Summary
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs inspection and preventive maintenance (PPM) following approved procedures, and demand service repairs on all medical equipment in the hospital and in the most effective way in keeping with the departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that all medical equipment is properly maintained and documented, ensuring up to date compliance with hospital applicable standards and other relevant international standards.
  • Perform incoming inspection, installation and commissioning of medical equipment; this includes establishing a PPM procedure, checklist and schedule.
  • Work closely with the end-users to ascertain appropriate and relevant needs and proper selection of medical equipment.
  • Responds to emergency calls after office hours through an established On-Call system.
  • Records and completes the necessary documentation, manually and or equipment data base of all maintenance activities including PPM, repairs, incoming inspection, update/upgrade and modifications.
  • Conducts quality assurance rounds to assess equipment safety and functions and other User concerns.
  • Takes action to minimize hazard risks associated with medical equipment use.
  • Operates specialized test equipment in troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Coordinates, oversee, and work with vendor’s service representative on new equipment installation, equipment under warranty, demand and service contracts.
  • Orders PPM and repair parts as required, identifies the requirements to ensure adequate parts inventory.
  • Provides User training as required on the safe and proper use of medical equipment to the hospital’s medical, nursing and technical staff
  • Perform other duties within the realm of knowledge and ability as required.
Requirements:
  • Good knowledge of the operation, repair, and safety of biomedical equipment and instruments.
  • Good knowledge of the operational aspects and environment of biomedical equipment as it relates to the treatment of patients;
  • Working knowledge of international safety codes and manufacturer specifications;
  • Ability to determine the cause of operational malfunction of biomedical equipment and make necessary repairs;
  • Inspects medical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturers specifications and code requirements;
  • Calibrates equipment to ensure accuracy and correct operation;
  • Documents repairs, calibrations, periodic safety inspections and preventive maintenance for maintaining database on departmental activities;

  • Clinical Role & Responsibilities
  • Medical and surgical assessment of disorders involving the ear, nose, throat and head and neck regions
  • Needs to be proficient in outpatient and inpatient management of ENT patients
  • Skills required include: endoscopic assessment of the ear, nose and sinuses; screening, assessment of and management of Head and Neck cancers; performing surgeries on the ear, nose, throat and head and neck region
  • The candidate needs to be proficient in providing ENT care for adults as well as children, including management and/or referral of children with congenital anomalies, as well as development delay as a results of ENT issues
  • Candidates need to be able to train staff to perform hearing tests both on adults & children, as well as to interpret results of hearing tests, and manage the condition further
