Technical Officer

Position Summary

Reporting to Interim WorldFish Lead, Technical Officer will contribute to achieving the outputs of Work package 1 (Adapting deltaic production systems) of CGIAR initiative -Asian Mega Delta. The CGIAR’s Securing the Food Systems of the Asian Mega-Deltas for Climate and Livelihood Resilience (AMD) Initiative aims to support the creation of resilient, inclusive, and productive deltas by facilitating the scaling of existing and emerging technologies and practices for transforming food systems towards greater climate resilience in the deltas. Under minimal supervision, this position will contribute to the appropriate implementation of research studies, including appropriate experimental design for the Agri-Production System in the coastal region and ensure providing information generated under the projects to the relevant scientists, and supervisors.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Under the guidance of the Interim WorldFish Lead, Technical Officer will have the following roles and responsibilities:
  • Plan and design data collection activities together with project team
  • Manage adaptive trials on diverse agri-production system in delta region
  • Exchange conceptual ideas with collaborating partners (national/international) and seek feedback
  • Collect agri-production system, social, economical and environmental indicators da
  • Assist in validation of suitability mapping
  • Document methods (or adapted protocols) to generate standardized method
  • Collate and manage data sets and drafting of reports
  • Assist in the identification of support partners and assign tasks/responsibilities
  • Support local coordination between members of the project team and national partners
  • Provide training and technical assistance to partners on research tools, methods and equipment used
  • Coordinate data collection and other project activities with local partners
  • Consolidate and manage research data related to environmental indicators, for sharing with project team
  • Summarize, evaluate and analyze data
  • Assist in the interpretation of the results on agri-production system, social, economical and environmental indicators data.
  • Assist in the development of annual reports and publications in refereed journals as well as presentations and posters to be used in national and international conferences.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, fisheries science, or other related agricultural fields with at least 5 years’ experience in research within these fields; OR
  • Master’s degree in aquaculture, fisheries science, or other related agricultural fields with at least 2 years’ experience in research within these fields
  • Experience of working on aquatic farming systems
  • Experience of adaptive/participatory research
  • Has experience conducting training and managing events
  • Familiarity and prior application of agri-production system and social science data collection methods, with an emphasis on qualitative and participatory methods.
  • Demonstrated ability on management and analysis of data sets and drafting of reports.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with government, civil society and private sector partners in facilitating data collection, information exchange and collective planning and implementation
  • Experience in training and technical assistance to partners on research tools, methods and equipment used.
  • Ability to assimilate and interpret results on agri-production system, social, economical and environmental indicators data into a coherent narrative. Preparation of annual reports and publications in refereed journals as well as presentations and posters to be used in national and international conferences.

Time frame and location

This position will be based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with travelling to other sites as required.

The successful candidate should be available to commence ASAP for an initial one year fixed term contract, with possibility of extension depending on performance and funding situation. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with the job level.
