Senior Tax Officer
Schedule: Full time, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday
Job Description:
This role reports directly to the Head of Finance and Admin and will be responsible for overseeing and managing the tax compliance, reporting, and planning functions of an organization. This position ensures adherence to local and international tax laws, leads tax audits, and provides strategic guidance on minimizing tax liabilities while maintaining compliance. The role requires in-depth knowledge of tax legislation, excellent analytical skills, and experience with complex tax matters.
- Lead the preparation and timely filing of all direct and indirect tax returns (e.g., VAT, withholding tax, and other applicable taxes).
- Prepare monthly and annual tax reports and submissions through the E-Filing system.
- Review and validate tax computations and reconciliations
- Prepare and submit the Annual Corporate Annual Return (ACAR).
- Prepare and submit the Annual Business Activity Report to the Ministry of Commerce.
- Identify and mitigate legal and tax risks in Cambodia, reporting key issues to management.
- Provide strategic tax planning advice to minimize the organization’s tax liabilities.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the business.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations, both local and international.
- Oversee systems, controls, and procedures to ensure legal and tax compliance, particularly for asset-related matters.
- Advise and support teams on expenditures related to tax obligations.
- Work closely with accounting teams to ensure accuracy and consistency between tax filings and financial records.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors, auditors, and internal departments (If any)
- Prepare and maintain all tax-related documentation and respond to information requests from authorities.
- Prepare and maintain all tax ruling requests submitted to the Tax Department or other relevant ministries.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Head of Finance and Admin.
- Requirement:
- The desired candidate should have some of the following capabilities, qualities, and experiences:
- Mature, energetic, and open-minded individual with solid leadership experience and ready to learn;
- Ability to deal with senior stakeholders such as CEOs, CFOs, and Heads of Finance, and to work independently;
- Hard-working, flexible, and positive attitude towards change, a reasonable level of uncertainty, and new challenges;
- Accounting (CPA, ACCA) accreditation and tax knowledge, with knowledge of various IT systems, including QuickBooks online.
- Ability to do segment analysis and provide reporting to the sales team and other senior managers
- Design and/or implementation of SOPs at a small to medium-sized business is a plus
- Good negotiation skills, strong ethical standards, and a willingness to speak up
- Fluency in English (particularly in ‘financial language’) and Khmer
- EDUCATION:
- The desired candidate should have some or a combination of the following education credentials or work experience equivalent in a professional environment.
- Master's or Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Business Law, or Banking fields
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in taxation, preferably in a senior or supervisory role
- In-depth understanding of corporate, VAT, and international tax laws
- Accounting knowledge or accounting accreditation
- Other educational courses such as CFA, CPA, ACCA,
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to handle complex regulatory discussions
- Knowledge or accreditation in Cambodian taxation
