School Curriculum Specialist (1 Position)
The School Curriculum Specialist will serve as a key team member of the Financial Education in Cambodian School Curriculum Project. She/he will coordinate with assigned colleagues from MoEYS, NBC and Good Return to develop and integrate new financial literacy contents into the MoEYS’s student textbooks for the above-mentioned grades and subjects. She/he will also assist in the development of the accompanying guidelines for teachers as well as teacher training session plans. Throughout these tasks, she/he will deliver technical support to MoEYS textbook writers, other involved MoEYS staff, Good Return and NBC to ensure the resulting materials are of the highest pedagogical quality; are grade- and contextually- appropriate; and, result in the expected learning outcomes. She/he will take the lead on the piloting of these materials in 12 schools in one target province. This will involve being responsible for liaison with local education authorities and schools, the organization of the trainer and teacher trainings, and the subsequent piloting of the materials by teachers with their students. S/he is expected to provide the highest standard of performance across the wide variety of required tasks, that includes content development, training facilitation, pilot implementation, monitoring, evaluation and quality control.
- Content Development
- Review MoEYS textbooks and relevant curriculum framework/s to understand the contents and expected learning outcomes for each target subject area in each target grade
- Help Good Return team members to organize and facilitate, and take active part in, the content development workshops
- Assist in all aspects of writing new student textbook content, under the guidance of the GR financial literacy international expert, as well as the creation of accompanying teacher guides and trainer sessions plans.
- Coordinate with the Good Return team and liaise with officials from the MoEYS Department of Curriculum Department (DCD) and other experts from relevant MoEYS departments in all stages of embedding financial literacy into textbooks.
- Take the lead in organizing one-day workshops and focus groups as part of user testing of drafts of the new materials in the target pilot province with teachers and students from 12 selected schools.
- Pilot implementation
- Take overall responsibility for the piloting of the new materials in a total of 12 schools spread across three districts of one target province
- Lead the organization and implementation of the Trainer Preparation Workshops that will occur before the teacher training for teachers from each target grade and subject matter.
- Lead all coordination and communications with MoEYS staff at provincial, district and school level for the organization of the pilot, including the teacher trainings.
- Lead on selection of schools, identification of teachers and other logistics, under the guidance of World Education senior staff working on this project
- Lead the organization and implementation of the teacher trainings that will occur in the target province with teachers from the 12 target schools (6 primary and 6 secondary schools)
- Take responsibility for the subsequent piloting by teachers of the new materials with their students, ensuring piloting has occurred as required, and has finished before the end of the school year.
- Lead the organization of monitoring and evaluation trips by the project team and MoEYS colleagues to observe pilot implementation by teachers in target schools, and ensure monitoring, evaluation & learning data collection has occurred as required.
- Management/Supervision of Staff
- Supervise and manage the World Education Training Officer who will be hired to provide assistance in all of the above tasks, particularly the training and pilot implementation tasks
- Overall Coordination & Technical Logistics
- Serve as the World Education point person of the project to liaise with the Good Return team and MoEYS relevant Technical Departments in all communication relating to the project.
- Coordinate with GR team to develop a workplan, in consultation with the MoEYS focal person of the project, and help ensure it is followed
- Other tasks assigned by direct supervisor or project requirement.
- Master’s degree in education, or related field, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience;
- Substantial curriculum development experience, preferably related to MoEYS school curriculum;
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of MoEYS’ primary and secondary school curriculum, the education system, MoEYS processes and related policies;
- Proven ability and experience in working in partnership, and leading participatory planning processes, with multiple partners including MoEYs, other government agencies and NGOs to co-create and/or implement curriculum, training or learning interventions;
- Experience in design / development and delivery of training or educational curriculum utilizing interactive and participatory methodologies and techniques;
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with a problem-solving, proactive attitude, and capacity to work both independently and as a collaborative team player;
- Superior integrity, work habits, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines;
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
- Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong oral and written communications skills in both Khmer and English.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
