Duration of the Volunteer Work
Working closely with consultants hired under the output 1.5 and 3.4, the National Team Leader and under the management of the National Project Manager at NCSD, and with technical advice from UN-Habitat team, the Resilient Housing Construction and Training Intern will propose to start on 15 November 2025.
Duty Station
The Resilient Housing Construction and Training Intern will be working with Consultant on Resilient Housing and Resilient Housing Training as requested by the project team and is expected to travel to Koh Kong and Kampot Province. The project will cover transportation costs and DSA for related assignments in the field based on government regulations.
Scope of Work
The Resilient Housing Construction and Training Intern will work closely with a consultant hired under the output 1.5 and 3.4, the National Team Leader and under the management of the National Project Manager at NCSD to implement the project activities on time and reach the target objectives effectively under the technical advice of the UN-Habitat in close coordination and communication with other stakeholders and consultants involved in the project.
Specifically, the main tasks of the Resilient Housing Construction and Training Intern will contribute to Component 1 and Component 3 (Output 1.5 and 3.4) of the project as described below:
Output 1.5: Development of resilient housing and toilet designs and construction of demonstration housing units in three vulnerable communities in Koh Kong Province
Output 3.4: Training Communities in target locations on resilient housing/latrines construction techniques.
- Conduct the interview of beneficiaries in the target of Communes and District.
- Collecting the data related to the resilient housing construction and training and social economic data to align with the output 1.5 and 3.4.
- Assist to support Housing Construction: Assist communities in building climate-resilient houses using appropriate techniques and locally available materials.
- Assist to support Training & Capacity Building: Facilitate training sessions for households, builders, and local beneficiaries on safe construction methods, resilient housing design, and disaster risk reduction practices.
- Raising Awareness on the importance of resilient housing in reducing risks from floods, storms, and other climate-related hazards.
- Work with community members, women’s groups, and youth to encourage participation in resilient housing activities.
- Willingness to work in the coastal area project and good relationships in the work context and in the real community.
- Applied the knowledge learned in school to real life, for example, designing and building a building site according to the designed layout.
- Khmer - Fluent
- English - Good
- Students are studying in 3rd, 4th or 5th year architecture or engineering student, vocational or technical training in construction or related fields.
- Have good relationships with teams, like to work in a community and get along well.
- Knowledge and use Auto CAD, 3D and Video Animation software.
- Be willing to travel to certain provinces when required by the project and stay in the community during the work period.
- Good communication and facilitation skills to train and guide local builders, households, and community groups.
- Previous volunteer experience in house construction, resilient building methods, or community training is advantage.
- Strong commitment to volunteerism, teamwork, and working with vulnerable households, women, and youth.
- Adaptability, respect for cultural practices, and ability to work under rural and challenging field conditions.
- Excellent command of Khmer and can communicate in English (both spoken and written)
