Program Officer

Position Summary

The Program Officer will work for projects LRP, and community development work in Kampot Province.

SAMAKY is seeking a committed and motivated Program Officer (PO) to support education projects, child sponsorship activities, and community development work in Kampot Province.

Starting Date : should be in early January 2026

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Support the Provincial Coordinator in implementing education and community projects.
  • Build relationships with schools, communities, and education authorities.
  • Prepare reports and maintain project documentation.
 
 

Research Officer

Position Circumstances

  • Salary: $460 - $550 Based on Experience
Position Summary

Start date: January 2026

Contract type: Full-time, permanent (1 year)

Working Hours:

  • Monday-Friday 9am-5pm (some early morning hours will be required, but hours can be taken off in lieu)
  • Some work on weekends may be required (days can be taken off in lieu)

Role Description:

The Research Officer is responsible for leading and implementing fieldwork, processing and analysing survey data, contributing to the preparation and writing of research papers, and disseminating research findings. Additional responsibilities include liaising with key stakeholders and partner organisations, and supporting the preparation of activity and financial reports. This position requires strong analytical, field research, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Person Description:

The ideal candidate will be passionate about research and wildlife conservation and have experience in both. They will be open to learning new skills and taking on new challenges, working well in a team, as well as independently. The ideal person will be hard-working and care about making a difference for Cambodia’s marine mammals and local people.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lead ecological surveys, such as land-based, boat-based, and acoustic surveys.
  • Lead social science surveys, such as questionnaires.
  • Stranding response.
  • Report writing and dissemination of findings.
  • Data management.
  • Data analysis.
  • Contribute to publishing peer-reviewed research.
  • Project administration.
  • Liaise with community members and government officials.
  • Support existing and new stakeholder relationships.
  • Assist content creation.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members and provide ongoing training and support to the team.
  • Supervise thesis students.
  • Uphold organization values.
  • Other responsibilities as identified.

Expected Profile of Candidates
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of science and conservation
  • Have published peer-reviewed research (preferred but not essential)
  • Computer literacy
Soft Skills
  • Fluency in English and Khmer (spoken and written)
  • Fieldwork, data analysis and strong writing skills
  • Strong organisational, time-management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Creativity, proactiveness, and willingness to contribute new ideas
  • Motivation to learn new skills and make a positive impact
  • Interest in Cambodia’s marine mammals

Project Assistant

Position Summary

Role Description:

The Project Assistant would work in a small team of both Khmer and international staff, focusing on conducting fieldwork and marine mammal ecological surveys to contribute to conservation, spreading awareness of this conservation through outreach and communications, liaising with key stakeholders and partners, and assisting with activities and financial reports.
