Sunrise Cambodia is a world-class charity working on the ground in Cambodia to give much-needed help to at-risk kids, struggling families and poor communities in some of the most poverty-stricken provinces of the country.

Sunrise Cambodia began in the early 1993s when a South Australian fifty-year old named Geraldine Cox began a small orphanage to care for the some of the orphaned grandchildren from Pol Pot’s regime. Unable to have her own children, Geraldine became “Mum to Many” as she took in street kids, orphans and the disabled to give them good food, a place to sleep, an education and lots of love.

Assistant Teacher of English

Position Summary

REPORT TO: Education Manager

HOURS OF WORK: 7:30 am – 04:30 pm Monday to Friday

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Leadership:
  • Work as a good member of teacher team to plan the lessons that meet students’ need and interest.
  • Be a role model in promoting an English-speaking environment as well as encouraging students to speak English as much as possible
  • Develop a strong and effective school culture based on the values of Sunrise Cambodia
  • Maintain a professional standard of dress and role of teachers
  • Be punctual for class and meeting
  • Coordination and Relationship:
  • Attend meeting, training and seminar as required by Sunrise Cambodia
  • Report concerns in relation to students’ misbehaviors, hygiene, well-being to relevant line manager
  • Work closely and cooperatively with volunteers
  • Facilitate and involve in Sunrise’s internal events as required by Sunrise Cambodia
  • Observe and evaluate students’ progress and report to Education Team Leader and Education

  • Teaching methodology:
  • Prepare daily or weekly lesson plans with clear objectives and make sure that all necessary materials for teaching are available in use to make a very active and productive learning in class.
  • Design homework or quiz for students
  • Design and create visual teaching materials such as posters, flashcards and other visual aids to support teaching
  • Provide classroom decorations to make it more interesting
  • Make fun, games and interesting activities in the class
  • Apply all methodologies that encourage a student-centered approach
  • Give advice or talk to individual student who has misbehaved at school and in the class
  • Administration:
  • Check and complete class attendance carefully according to Sunrise’s procedure
  • Monitor and maintain teaching supplies by ordering in advance
  • Make sure that all the class door and window are closed and help switch off the big fans and lights properly after class.
  • Other responsibilities:
  • To proactively participate in the Staff Performance Appraisal process including the annual appraisal, midyear review and regular 1:1 meetings, ensuring that the Performance Appraisal process (including the paperwork) is an integral component of Annual Work Plans and activities;
  • Promote a safe and secure work environment; foster a culture of safety and security awareness and consistently follow all Sunrise Cambodia safety and security policies, procedures and directives;

  • Ensure children at all times are protected from physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and report any mistreatment or abuse of children.

Outreach Social Worker

Position Summary

REPORT TO : Social Work Coordinator

HOURS OF WORK : 8.00 am – 5.00 pm Monday to Friday

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The Outreach Social Worker provides direct social welfare services to vulnerable children and families in the community. The role includes case management, regular home visits, coordination with local partners, and detailed reporting to ensure children’s safety, education, emotional well-being, and successful reintegration into their families and community

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Programme Development
  • Provide input, based on field observations and community needs, to the annual implementation and budget planning for Sunrise Cambodia.
  • Identify service gaps and recommend new outreach projects to support vulnerable children and families.
  • 30% with Residential Care Social Workers to ensure children in supporting in their best interests. And organize documents necessary for children entering or transitioning with the care system.
  • 40% for Reintegration, provide intensive ongoing support to children and youth from Sunrise to their families or independent living.
  • Conduct post-reintegration assessments of families and reintegrated kids, ensuring reintegration policies of Sunrise.
  • 30% support disabilities and vulnerable children and families in community, facilitate access to education and rehabilitation services for them with specific needs.
  • Case Management & Service Delivery
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans for each child and family.
  • Conduct or organize pre-assessments for children before they are placed in the Residential Care Center, ensuring all decisions are based on safety, best interests of the children.
  • Conduct regular home visits to assess safety, emotional well-being, living conditions, and family dynamics.
  • Maintain accurate case files and write case notes for all follow-ups and community activities.
  • Coordinate school enrollment, document transfers, and attendance follow-up for children from Grade 1–12, higher education, and vocational training.
  • Provide necessary materials such as uniforms, school supplies, and extra classes.
  • Monitor academic performance and collaborate with teachers and families to overcome learning challenges.
  • Provide ongoing support to reintegrated children, ensuring access to services that promote safety and stability.
  • Conduct post-reintegration assessments covering education, security, emotional well-being, health, and family income.
  • Identify vocational training programs and job-skills opportunities for youth.
  • Provide children and youth with updated information on scholarships, training, and employment opportunities.
  • Organize awareness sessions and workshops on important community issues such as Sunrise programs, health education, alcohol use, and gambling. And take lead kids team building.
  • Ensure all activities with case notes, minute meeting report in the database management system.
  • Communication
  • Work collaboratively with relevant Project Coordinators, the RC Social Workers, and Sunrise staff, including team management.
  • Attend weekly team meetings, kid meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, and relevant external meetings, workshops and conferences.
  • Coordinate and develop good relationships with local authorities, government representatives and partner organizations to ensure holistic support for children’s needs.
  • Management, Monitoring & Compliance
  • Participate in the staff performance appraisal process, including annual reviews, mid-year reviews, and regular supervision meetings.
  • Follow and promote all Sunrise Cambodia safety, security, and safeguarding policies.
  • Uphold Sunrise Cambodia’s Child Protection and PSEAH (Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment) obligations.
  • Comply with all financial, personnel, and operational policies with high levels of integrity.
  • Report damaged or lost assets to Admin and the line manager promptly.
  • Record vehicle usage correctly in the logbook.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, simi-report and annual reports.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Travel to field locations independently or with team members using a motorcycle or vehicle; occasional overnight stays may be required.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Social Work Coordinator or Assistant Operations Manager to support program objectives.
