GIZ is a federally owned enterprise and is supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

GIZ implements the technical cooperation project entitled Improving Social Protection and Health (ISPH) in Cambodia. The project is commissioned by Germany (the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and is co-financed by Australia (the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). The project provides technical support to the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in the areas of social protection and health system strengthening.

The Government of Kingdom of Cambodia endorsed the National Social Protection Policy Framework (NSPPF) 2016 – 2025 in 2016. Under this policy framework, social protection system in Cambodia consists of two pillars which are social security and social assistance. In March 2022, a newly public institution--National Social Assistance Fund (NSAF)-- was established with the principal roles of consolidating the implementation of social assistance programmes in Cambodia.

Within this role, GIZ ISPH project is providing technical and financial support to NSAF for institutional improvement toward an excellence hub for social assistance single operator. GIZ ISPH, in collaboration with Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM), recruited an international technical expert to work under the NSAF, to assist NSAF in achieving our common goal of strengthening the institutional capacity and communication with the objective of enhancing skills and strengthening the spirit of the responsibility of its staff and strengthening communication around social protection for improved outreach.

National Intern with ISPH

Position Summary

To support the international expert to perform his duty effectively, GIZ ISPH is offering a full-time internship position for a period of 6 months from 01 March 2024 to 31 August 2024 to facilitate the international support in his daily work with tasks such as translating documents, advising on local customs, providing technical input, interpretation during meeting and discussion, and other duties as needs arise. Intern is based in Phnom Penh and are responsible for providing the following services:

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Key task 1: Assisting in NSAF’s Institutional strengthening
  • Assisting the CIM expert and NSAF in conducting desk review related to social assistance
  • Supporting CIM expert and NSAF in developing case study, policy brief, proof reading related to social assistance such as scheme design, monitoring, lesson learned
  • Assisting in all logistic arrangements for workshops, meeting, training and make appointments
  • Attend meetings/workshops together with CIM expert when it will need for translation from Khmer to English or vice versa
  • Working within all departments of the NSAF with team spirit
  • Traveling to the provinces with international expert as required by CIM Expert and NSAF
  • Key task 2: Provide translation services (for CIM Expert/NSAF)
  • Carry-out document's translation related tasks from Khmer to English or vice versa
  • Supporting CIM expert in translation services for meetings, training, workshops
  • Supporting in all events of workshops, meeting, and training within and outside the premises
  • Assists in the facilitation of communication between departments and partner team upon request
  • Traveling to the provinces with international experts as required by CIM Exper and NSAF
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Undergraduate (3rd or 4th year student) or fresh graduate in a relevant field (e.g., social work, sociology, psychology, philosophy, public policy, public administration, international relations, English literature etc.)
  • Strong interest in social protection, social assistance, social research, reporting, translation-related activities
  • Strong interest in event management such as training, workshop,
  • Strong interest in working in a cross-cultural environment and team
  • Language skills: Khmer: Mother tongue Very good command of the English in spoken and in written form.
  • Literacy in digital flatform/tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Teams)
  • Some experience in organizing events/trainings/workshops
  • Strong commitment and high ability to handle pressure
  • Willingness to learn and to develop new skills
