GIZ is a federally owned enterprise and is supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

The FABRIC Cambodia project works with partners for a competitive textile and garment industry in Cambodia that is fair for people and respects the environment. The project leverages networks to create solutions for a sustainable garment and textile industry. Since its launch in 2014, the FABRIC Cambodia project has been active in Cambodia with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). FABRIC Cambodia facilitates cooperation between public, private and civil society stakeholders to jointly improve the social and environmental performance of the sector. The project also provides business development services to strengthen management skills and enables regional knowledge exchange among experts. Through this integrated approach, FABRIC Cambodia supports Cambodia in enhancing the quality and competitiveness of its garment production.

Different levels of stakeholders across the supply chain are included in the cooperation to support a holistic transformation of the textile and garment sector. The project works on social, environmental, and cross-cutting topics, such as energy and waste management, women empowerment, financial literacy, human rights and environment due diligence and regional exchange formats etc.

National Intern for FABRIC: Sustainability

Position Summary

To support the FABRIC Cambodia team to perform the project activities effectively, GIZ FABRIC Cambodia is seeking a Full-time National Intern for GIZ FABRIC: Sustainability in the Garment Sector for 6 months (01 December 2023 – 31 May 2024) to facilitate the team in its daily work with tasks such as designing, planning, and implementing project activities, events and trainings. The intern is based in Phnom Penh and is responsible for providing the following services:

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the responsible team members in the implementation of activities in the field of environmental and social sustainability in the textile and garment sector
  • Support in the preparation of meetings, presentations, events and factory trainings (e.g., agenda planning, logistical arrangements) and communication with the respective partners and stakeholder involved in the activity
  • Documentation of results, provide information, sharing materials on project related topics e.g., minutes, update stakeholder lists, invitation management, social media posts etc.
  • Conduct research and support the development and compilation of technical documents (e.g. concept papers, Terms of Reference)
  • Support in the development and delivery of presentations on project-specific topics and participation in internal and external events, workshops etc.
  • Support to the preparation of local short-term consultant/consulting firm contracts as well as the procurement of goods according to GIZ regulations.
  • Fulfilling other duties and tasks at the request of the team leader
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Undergraduate (3rd or 4th year student) or fresh graduate in a relevant field of Social Science, Business Administration, Economics, Environmental Management, Sustainability Management or other relevant fields
  • Strong interest in sustainability topics, especially in the textile and garment sector
  • Some experience and strong interest in organizing events/trainings/workshops/webinars etc.
  • Strong interest in working in a cross-cultural environment and team
  • Language skills: Khmer: Mother tongue Very good command of the English in spoken and in written form.
  • Literacy in digital platform/tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Teams)
  • Willingness to learn and to develop new skills
