Medical Social Worker
Job location : AHC Siem Reap, Cambodia
Report to : Manager of Medical Social Work Unit
Working hours : 40 hours/week
Salary & benefits : Based on the employment contract
General Description
The Social worker will join a small, supportive team that is an integral component of Angkor Hospital for Children. The Social worker will be responsible for helping individual patients and their families or caretakers to overcome psychosocial challenges while they are staying in Angkor Hospital for Children or as outpatients, and work closely with Senior Social Work Technical Officer and Unit Manager. The social worker will be responsible for responding to the psychosocial needs of patients and their families or caretakers. The social worker will work to provide quality case management including emotional and counselling support, financial support, social services intervention for child protection-related issues, and appropriate provide referrals and advocacy as required. The social worker will work with AHC staff as well as local authorities and NGOs.
- Follow AHC social work procedures
- Conduct psychological assessments
- Conduct Financial Assessments
- Provide emotional/counselling support and social service consultations
- Organize and manage support as need from hospital
- Collaborate with local authorities, and other social services agencies or NGOs in order to provide holistic social service support to patients and families.
- Cooperate with medical staff to provide quality care to patient and families
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams and meetings regarding child protection and support patients and their families or caretakers
- Facilitate medical examinations and process evidence records as needed
- Follow up and visit patients and their families at their home if needed
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Participate in training and team meetings
- Provide supervision to other staff and assist with management of difficult cases
- Some other reasonable tasks as assigned by Senior Social Work Technical Officer or Unit Manager
- University degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or other related field.
- Experience working with vulnerable children especially children who have been abused including (physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglected, and other forms of child abuse)
- Experience providing emotional support and counselling
- Experience working in assessment of financial condition
- Experience working in Social work field is a plus
- Previous experience working in medical setting is a plus but NOT required
- Willing to going out to community to assess patient condition
- Willing to work in the community or with local authorities/NGOs as needed
- Enthusiastic and hard working

- Good communication skills with communities and local authorities
- Ability to use (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Good written and spoken English and Khmer
- Ability to learn and adopt new skills
