Marketing and Communications Officer

Job Description
In this dynamic role, the Marketing & Communications Officer (MCO) will play a key role in amplifying impact and building and engaging audiences. The MCO will produce fresh content drawn from CKS programming and a network of scholars and institutions and develop distribution strategies that deliver timely information and promote engagement. An analysis of audience insights will inform future strategy. The selected candidate will create and manage an integrated marketing and communications calendar to track content and campaigns across delivery channels and manage volunteers and interns as needed.
The MCO will be based in either Siem Reap or Phnom Penh Office. He/she works closely with CKS’s management team and with members of the Board of Directors to leverage marketing and fundraising opportunities, produce the monthly newsletter focusing on CKS programs, and create content for CKS’s website and social media platforms.

- Communications and Branding
- Produce, design, and edit multimedia content (text, photos, video, posters, etc) for all communication channels to promote CKS programs and fundraising campaigns
- Maintain style and branding in all CKS communications activity consistent with international norms in higher education and CKS’s mission and protocols.
- Propose/design marketing strategy in consultation with CKS Director/Communications Committee
- Create visually appealing posters that capture attention and promote our upcoming lectures, webinars, courses, and live events.
- Develop content tailored to the higher education sector, resonating with students, scholars, and educators.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail in all written and visual content
- Train and supervise student interns
- Social Media and Website
- Manage and update CKS’s social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter including following partner’s accounts and resharing relevant content
- Build and nurture engaged online communities through social media strategy and management.
- Create and schedule social media content calendar
- Ensure that messaging on social media and other channels is consistent with CKS’s mission; engage CKS’s audience of students, scholars, and donors; promote CKS’s programs, outputs, and mission; and presented in a professional manner consistent with higher education practices
- Track and analyze social media activity to gauge audience engagement and optimize strategies.
- Maintain website updates
- Manage Online and Hybrid Event Production
- Help create and update the annual event calendar, preparing announcements and invitations
- Operate and manage audio/visual equipment for live and hybrid events and broadcasts, ensuring smooth and professional presentations.
- Take photos and videos of in-person events for archival and promotional purposes and maintain photographic archive
- Manage audience registration forms and email automation
- Update and record events and audience engagement reports
- Travel to CKS Headquarters in Siem Reap and other locations for CKS events as needed.
- Email Campaign and Newsletter
- Securely manage and segment subscribers/contact list
- Create and run email programs with A/B testing, automation, and optimization
- Craft engaging news stories for our newsletter, highlighting student & scholar achievements and program updates.
- Solicit and Draft content for CKS’s monthly newsletter
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field (experience may substitute for education).
- Demonstrated digital marketing experience, especially with ad words, email, and social media
- Language: Oral and Written Fluency in English and Khmer Strong interpersonal, relationship, and partner-management skills
- Ability to train and manage student interns
- Solid understanding of the digital user experience, information architecture, SEO, and creative best practices
- Ability to synthesize marketing data to optimize programs
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to act with agility, build on what works and learn from mistakes
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of emerging digital marketing trends and platforms, and the ability to integrate them into existing strategies
- Familiarity with G Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Google Marketing Platform (Search Console, Ads, Analytics), social media business tools, and donor management tools
- A flexible and collaborative team player
- Excellent writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to tailor content to different audiences.
- Experience in graphic design and layout software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, InDesign) a plus.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience working in a higher education institution and/or non-profit environment is a plus.
- Familiarity with norms and practice within international higher education, in the social sciences and humanities especially at the graduate level, a plus
