THE ROLE
The Technical Learning Farm officer will do action research, set up a demo showcase that was recommended by the KT manager/KTS, provide technical training to internal and external and promote technical knowhow and sustainable practices to integrate part of long term business strategy which acknowledges that learning farm and company income develops hand-in-hand. He/She will set up demo plots with new and adapted technologies, and research at learning farms and training in vegetable production are the foundations of the technical inputs EWS-KT brings to the projects in the different areas. The KT learning farm activities are conducted in collaboration with partners University/NGOs whenever possible.
- Setting Demonstration/action research plot:
- Design the learning plot to set up demo showcase
- Action research on technical knowhow ( recommend by KT manager/KTS)
- Participate with KTS team to develop protocol that require from country/group
- Update and share the activity plan with Technical specialist, relevant team
- Place sign boards around the learning farm to inform visitors of the current activity
- Build up capacity of EWS internal and relevant stakeholders to train other smallholder farmers in the area
- Learn by doing at a learning farm and set up trials within the demo plot, and share the result to improved vegetable production technique
- Focus on improving farm management practices using EWS varieties or if not
- available for a specific crop from another seed company (to coordinate with Technical specialist/ KT manager)
- Demonstrate learning farm with the collection of farm data include cost and benefit
- Take photos of the demonstration plot/action research at different growing stage
- Data entry all farm records on KT-App/google sheet
- Assist intern to manage activities at learning farm
- Advertise the learning farm activities through social media.
- Conduct training:
- Identify training needs assessment on vegetable production knowledge (internal and external)
- Plan training in collaboration with EWS/partner NGOs (if in place in the area)
- Share training plan with Technical specialist, team leader, and KT manager
- Collect data at a learning farm that is assigned by a technical specialist.
- Organize Field days
- Plan field days as soon as demonstration/action research in place - field days can be organized at different crop stages
- Share plan with partner, University (if present), EWCB spot promoter, sales rep & marketing if spot promoter not in place in this area, team leader, social media, project coordinator and KT manager in Cambodia
- Advertise and inform the community and other stakeholders.
- Technical point of contact for vegetable production and EWS varieties within the area of activities
- Participate in events from EWCB sales & marketing on EWS varieties information (EWCB field day, PDS farms)
- Be proactive in keeping updates with new varieties, new techniques, new products on the local market
- Be proactive in setting trials in demonstration farms and action research, record accordingly results. (prepare with a Technical specialist and TWG)
- Coordinate with relevant people such as interns, farmers, students....etc.
- Share extension materials that apply at learning farms.
- Data collection in coordination with Technical Specialist
- Report accurate and timely farm record/google sheet/ KT App
- Record data for monitoring - training number of participants, field days participants
- Record observations, remarks that could be important in evaluating and managing Activities.
- Reporting
- Provide the monthly, quarterly reports to technical specialist and CC KT Manager
- Prepare activity planning and share to technical specialist and CC KT Manager
- Share the special event at the learning farm with social media.
- Diploma in agriculture or related field, Bachelor Degrees is a a plus
- Ability to communicate with all levels particularly small holder farmers
- Technical competence in all aspects of crop management
- Able to lead training to disseminate technical knowledge
- Ability to transfer improved farm management practices through key farmers
- Able to build trust in farming communities
- Good time management and organization skills
- Analysis of cost and return
- Able to coordinate with internship and relevant partner
- Ability to solve problems (analytical thinking), share relevant information and solution
- Independent thinking, good and fast decision making
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Cambodian language, English a plus
- Computer literacy a plus
