The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together 33 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has more than 300 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 10 nationalities and includes 6 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.

Position Summary

As Bioinformatics Research Engineer you will employ Bioinformatics methods, programming, data science, machine learning, AI and other IT technologies and methods to the analysis of biological sequences, with applications to scientific research on infection diseases. You will be part of the Unit for Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence

Application (BAIA), a small and dynamic team, recently created with the mission of becoming a national and international reference center dedicated to Bioinformatics and to the applications of AI to scientific research. 

This is a local Cambodian position; thus, the position is open only for Cambodian citizens or foreigners already currently working in Cambodia. 

Recruitment conditions:

  • Contract: The initial contract is offered for 1 year (renewable)
  •  Start Date: Available to start as soon as possible
  •  Remote Work: Possibility to work remotely, subject to job role and management approval

Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • English - Good is required
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or a related field with additional requirement: strong affinity and interest for biological and medical sciences and research OR
  • Master's Degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Bioengineering, Infectiology or related field with additional requirement: basics of Linux command line, basics of computer programming
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Previous experiences with Linux command line (Bash) 
  • Basic knowledge of computer programming or scripting 
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn advanced use and programming of R and Python 
  •  Willingness to learn advanced Bioinformatics techniques and methods 
Soft Skills
  • Strongpersonal affinity to technical work and computer programming 
  • Attentionto detail and organization necessary to work in a scientific research setting 
  • Commitment to IPC’s mission in advancing science and public health in Cambodia. 
  • Problem-solving mindset and capability of interpreting complex project requirements. 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Ability to work and learn independently 
  • Adaptabilityand flexibility in working within a dynamic, multicultural, and interdisciplinary environment 
  • Capability of team play and willingness of effective knowledge sharing in the unit
