Internship for Climate Change Impact Monitoring
JOB SUMMARY
The Climate Change Monitoring Intern will monitor the climate change/ weather impacts on the cashew crop which includes cashew tree health, quantity and quality of the nuts, climate adaptation of the farmers in Mondulkiri (Keo Seima) and Ratanakiri (Lomphat) provinces.
The intern will be paid a monthly stipend, and related cost to field travel is fully covered by USAID Morodok Baitang which includes transportation, accommodation, and food allowances. The internship will report to the Site Manager of Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri Province and receive technical support from the Conservation Monitoring Manager. There will be flexibility of working hours and based location according to the agreed plan between intern and supervisor to adapt the intern's school program or personal plan. However, data collection will be conducted in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri province while data analysis can be done in Phnom Penh office at school."
Duration: December 2024 – June 2025
Base location: Phnom Penh with frequent travel to the field locations including the target cashew farming area in Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri Province.
- Develop research design to identify the impacts of climate change/ (changed) weather patterns on cashew crops.
- Monitor the climate change impacts happening at the target areas on the cashew farms such as rainfall, storms, drought, flood or flashflood, etc. and record in the data form.
- Conduct observation at the cashew farms to identify physical impacts from climate change.
- Develop a questionnaire and conduct interviews with farmers to collect information on farming activities such as fertilizer application, pruning, pesticide spray, watering and others.
- Identify farming activities which are considered as farmers’ adaptation to cope with climate change impacts including the input cost.
- Monitor and record the cashew trees’ seasonal changes during leaf dropping, new leaf development, flowering, fruit development, fruit ripening, and yield.
- Year 4th bachelor or master candidate in Environment, or Biodiversity, or Agriculture, or Biology, development study, or other relevant fields.
- Ability to use digital tool for supporting data collection and analysis
- Good command of oral and written English.
- Willingness to implement field activities at remote villages in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri province.
