English Teacher (Khmer National Only)
We are looking for an experienced English Teacher to support our team by providing free education to impoverished children and youth in Siem Reap.
With a strong focus on employee training, you will have the opportunity to participate in free Online courses from Australia as well as many other training opportunities throughout the year.
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Monthly training: 1 full day on Saturday
- Adapt lesson plans from REACH’s educational framework as necessary to suit the needs of your class.
- Ensure your lesson plans include activities and fun games to engage the students in classroom participation and foster a creative learning culture.
- Record or create the resources list for the senior education team to review and purchase for the new course.
- Assist in translating documents for the education department or other departments when necessary.
- Involve in administration tasks for the education department or other departments as necessary.
- Substitute teaching in Repair Shop, Role Model club or Bicycle Leader when necessary.
- Preparation/review of lesson plans as required to meet the needs of the Education department.
- Record daily student attendance in line with internal organisational processes.
- Teach lesson plans by REACH’s educational framework.
- Teach students additional subjects as well as English which will include but not be limited to Art, Physical Education, Repair Shop, Cycling Assistant, Garden and Ethics.
- Support and observe individual students learning behaviour both inside the classroom and during other activities they undertake whilst present at the school.
- Where necessary, make referrals to the Head Teacher or Department Manager when there are any concerns or issues regarding individual students.
- Motivate and encourage students to be involved and engage with all activities within the school.
- Promote ethical behaviour amongst all students, always leading by example.
- Prepare in advance of daily classes, the materials and resources required for the activities to be undertaken in line with the lesson plan for that day.
- Preparation of student report cards every Semester.
- Host parent - teacher meetings at the end of every semester to review student performance as well as behaviour.
- Undergo on-going training workshops hosted internally and externally by other organizations.
- Work alongside any foreign volunteers who may be assigned to Classroom Assistant duties.
- Conduct yourself in a manner both inside and outside of the workplace which promotes the values and ethos of REACH.
- Assist other REACH colleagues where collaboration is necessary to achieve inter-departmental goals.
- Fluency in verbal and written Khmer
- Excellent communication skills both in verbal and written English
- A degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or relevant degree is highly desirable.
- With a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
- Work experience within NGOs
- Ability to work well with children and gain their respect.
- A clear understanding of child protection and local laws
- Good computer literacy skills (Must have experience in the use of E-Mail as well as Microsoft Word and Excel)
