Summary of the Requirement
The School Learning Garden (SLG) project, a part of the Lifelong Learning program, has been implemented by Plan International Cambodia since 2017 with support from Plan Australia/DFAT’s Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS). The SLG project provides a tangible link between educational quality and school-based nutrition and health activities, with a specific focus on girls’ education and gender equality. The plan’s approach was introduced in 2017 by contextualizing the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program in Australia. Leveraging PIC's existing WFP School Feeding Program by assessing the setting and target population, with a strong strategy for influencing and monitoring in partnership with MoEYS to ensure government endorsement and future uptake.
In the current SLG project phase period from July 2024 to June 2026, the project focuses on enhancing educational quality in Cambodian primary schools in Siem Reap by linking the Cambodian national school curriculum subjects like Khmer, mathematics, social studies, and science toward improving of learning outcomes for students of grades 4, 5 & 6 and to provide an enabling environment for both girls and boys have improved knowledge, skills, and attitudes around healthy eating and gardening, climate resilience, and display gender-equitable and disability inclusive attitudes and behaviors. The project transforms the school garden and kitchen spaces into an extension of the classroom and supports teachers to use experiential and hands-on learning techniques and climate resilience.
