English Teacher
Position Reports To:
Primary reporting line will be to: LWB Cambodia Director, Cambodia Education Manager and to overseas Education Managing Director and Education Manager
Liaison will be required with: Outside relevant organisations as deemed necessary.
Position Location: Based in Poipet with possible travel to other provinces. Travel out into rural areas may be required.
Position Purpose:
- To provide students with active and engaging lessons in the English language for academic and conversational use.
- To report to our western team regularly, at least monthly, as to how each child in the class is progressing, their struggles and their successes and any other information deemed necessary.
- Liaison with LWB school teachers, parents and students required.
- Liaison with LWB teachers to ensure the curriculum is implemented and followed.
- Translation of documents/reports from Khmer to English will be required on a monthly basis as part of your position
Work Environment:
- The position is based in Poipet but requires daily travel to rural areas.
- Multi-tasking as a result of the many functions and demands of the program, team, children and families served by LWB’s education program.
- Making assessments about the provision of quality education for the children within our programs.
- Working with many different personalities amongst the staff.
- Making decisions quickly when needed.
- Working and communicating with Khmer, English speaking children, families, organisations and LWB personnel.
- Sensitivity and ethical behaviour required at all times when dealing with other staff, children and families.
- To write and facilitate daily, active and engaging lesson plans to develop and increase student’s conversational and academic English language use over time and across grade levels based on the curriculum specified by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Cambodia and in line with LWB suggested instructional methods.
- Teaching activities to include:
- Prepare weekly lesson plans, homework, quizzes and exams
- Correct and grade student work
- Assess and evaluate student knowledge
- Prepare Mid Term Progress Report and End of Term Report Card
- Provide a safe and warm learning environment
- Report and discuss students’ progress with staff and admin
- Provide remedial help to weak students
- Participate and support activities which promote student success
- Devote time to extra-curricular activities
- Share best teaching practices with colleagues
- Follow school policies and procedures
- Other tasks as required
- Ensuring children are at all times are protected from physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and report any mistreatment or abuse of children
- Act, at all times, in a professional and ethical manner, with appropriate role modelling for all children
- Following other duties as reasonably required by management team
- Respect child rights, privacy and confidentiality at all times, by involving children in case planning, ensuring that their privacy is protected, and not disclosing sensitive or private information to other children, or other agencies, without permission by the child, with consideration of the child’s development, and other safety issues. (TOTAL HOURS 16 PER WEEK)
- Liaise with other teachers and offer extra help to them if they wish to learn English (TOTAL HOURS 5 PER WEEK)
- Work with the foster care department (and other departments as required from time to time) to offer translation services (Khmer to English) with documentation, where required.(TOTAL 16 HOURS PER WEEK)
- Write (in English) a monthly general report on the children in your class, detailing the advancement of their education during the month, their health and wellbeing and including ‘interesting’ stories relevant to the children’s learning from the reporting period.
- Take a selection of photos of children during their lessons and at play and forward photos to relevant LWB personnel on a monthly basis along with your class general report (translated into English) detailing what they have covered during the month.
- Keep LWB personnel updated on any noteworthy occurrences during the month for LWB children, such as sickness, injury, absence, or withdrawal from school/program.
- Complete initial intake forms for all children entering the English class, detailing general details on the child’s identity, together with confirmation of an assessment of the child’s English skills to date. Progress reports are required by LWB mid-year and at the end of the year for every child.
- Inform LWB of any concerns for a child’s welfare, health, or mental health.
- Complete the attendance records and update the children’s test results online for LWB personnel to view.
- Work closely with other LWB staff as required.
- Facilitate communications with government departments where requested.
- Represent LWB Cambodia at meetings when requested.
