As Education Advisor you contribute to this ambition and these values by providing advice to and capacity development of our education partners
Position in the organisation
As an Education Advisor you report to the Country Programmes Manager and are part of and work closely with your direct colleagues of the Programme team. Furthermore, you work closely together with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to strengthen their capacities to develop and implement programmes and initiatives on quality education.

- Your responsibilities as Education Advisor:
- You offer technical advice, guidance and support to VVOB colleagues to achieve project results and to government partners in order to realize educational change processes supported by the project.
- You contribute to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project in order to realize educational change processes supported by the project.
- You take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process of the partners according to the needs of the partner and particular situations and phases of the programme;
- You keep abreast with policy trends, new developments and latest research and thinking in education and international development by external and internal networking and share new insights with partners and VVOB colleagues.
- If you’re our Education Advisor, your workweek at the office will include the following highlights:
- Start your week collaborating with VVOB’s Strategic Education Advisors to align priorities for PTOM and ensure coherence with other ongoing initiatives like SMILE.
- Travel to the field to observe PTOM mentoring sessions and the application of the contextualised early grade mathematics learning package. Engage with teachers, mentors, and school leaders to gather insights and provide on-the-spot technical support.
- Back at the office, consolidate findings from your field visits into reflection notes to inform programme adaptations and future scaling discussions.
- Facilitate a workshop with MoEYS counterparts and Core Expert Group members to share emerging lessons from PTOM, while also contributing to cross-programme learning with colleagues working on SMILE.
- End the week reviewing programme data with the MERL Advisor to evaluate progress and prepare inputs for upcoming reports, technical meetings, and VVOB’s programme development efforts.
- Your expertise and experience
- Master’s degree in education, human sciences, or other relevant field or equivalent experience
- Professional background in early grade learning (Mathematics), foundational learning and mentoring; background in any of the following areas are an advantage: technical and vocational education and training, gender and inclusion, climate change education
- Knowledge of and experience with programme management and working with partners (MoEYS, UNESCO, UNICEF, other international and local NGOs)
- Experience with capacity development processes in the context of educational institutions, especially mentoring, coaching and communities of practice
- An in-depth understanding of the Cambodian education system and the latest developments in the global education space.
- Fluent in English and Khmer (verbal and written)
