Position Summary

Scan Landscape for ACP Management: Creation of a digital landscape analysis tool to propose tailored and contextualized crop protection strategies.

Compensation: 1500$

Duration & Period

  • Duration of assignment: 2 months
  • Period: December 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026
  • Location: ITC

Context of the assignment

  • Cambodia, like its neighbors, particularly Vietnam, has seen an increase in pesticide use, especially in recent years, contrary to the global trend.
  • Pesticide overuse is an issue for:
  • Environment, biodiversity and human health
  • Increase pest and disease by creating resistance
  • Advices on agroecological levers for crop protection need to be more available for farmers and technicians.
  • To increase availability and modernity, we want to develop an app that could propose preventive solution to pest and disease and make rice production more sustainable. Most existing application only present curative measures, no preventive and does not take into account the landscape around the plot.

Mission objectives

  • Objectives of the app :
  • Identify Agroecological Crop Protection levers in the plot and nearby environment
  • Identify environmental risk factors associated with pesticide use
  • For who : CAO (communal agricultural officer), technician and farmers
  • What information sources to use: panoramic image of the field taken by the user, open source satellite images,…
  • Crop: rice
  • What the app will answer: agroecological advices, preventive measures, in the plot and nearby areas

Expected deliverables

Version Alpha of a Live Image Reader (prototype)

Functional prototype capable of:

  • Capturing and displaying live field images (panoramic)
  • Integrating open-source satellite images (e.g., Google engine)
  • Performing basic landscape feature extraction (e.g., vegetation cover, water bodies, plot boundaries)
  • Basic UI for visualization and interaction
Expected Profile of Candidates
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related scientific field.
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Computer Vision & Image Analysis for analyzing satellite or drone imagery.
  • Machine Learning for Agriculture: Strong background in deep learning and predictive modeling for agricultural or environmental data.
  • Geospatial Data Management: Experience working with GIS tools (Google Earth Engine).
  • Statistical Modeling & Visualization
  • Programming skills
Soft Skills
  • Motivation: Strong interest in leveraging technology for sustainability and agricultural transition.
  • Soft Skills: Autonomous, team-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Languages: Fluent in English
