Position Summary

The Cambodian Trauma Support Counsellor is responsible for implementing systems and resources for Bloom Asia’s Trauma Support programs. The Trauma Support Counsellor operates with the overarching goal of fostering healing, hope and purpose in the lives of Bloom Asia’s program participants through counselling, social work, group therapy, trauma-informed practices and proactive community-building for trauma survivors.

The Trauma Support Counsellor committed to implementing the Freedom Principles within each stage of a program participant’s healing journey (their “Pathway”). Supports each program participant to move towards managed trauma responses and overall wellness in their lives. Key to the position is the implementing of trauma informed practices, best-practice counselling techniques, psycho-social support, and mentorship of the trauma support team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Instilling the five core pillars of Bloom Culture: Love, Fun, Professionalism, Respect & Faith, which are built upon the foundation of Trust.
  • Championing the five Freedom Principles of Movement, Assessment, Empowerment, Support and Differentiation within Bloom’s leadership staff and program participants.
  • Specific
  • Trauma-informed Care (Key Freedom Principle: Support, Differentiation):
  • Provide leadership, vision, encouragement and inspiration to all those involved in promoting healing, hope and purpose.
  • Identifying areas of potential growth and enabling such growth to happen.
  • Working alongside the Program Manager Be the leading authority within Bloom on Accept Commit Therapy and Memory Reconsolidation, reviewing up-to-date publications, committing to ongoing professional development, undertaking regular supervision sessions and facilitating training with leaders and program participants.
  • Mentor program participants within the trauma recovery counselling program.
  • Provide emergency counselling to all program participants facing serious psychosocial circumstances that fall outside the expertise of other Bloom leaders.
  • Develop and outwork interactive ACT-based experiences which foster healing hope and purpose (i.e. exercise, games, group therapy, workplace activities, online resources).
  • Tracking Progress (Key Freedom Principle: Measurement)
  • Manage the monitoring and evaluation of all program participants’ post-traumatic growth journey, utilising Bloom Asia’s assessment tools to understand where program participants are up to in their journey.
  • Implement the Trauma Support program, ensuring it meeting the needs of survivors.
  • Employment Partnerships (Key Freedom Principles: Empowerment and Movement)
  • Working closely with the Training Program Manager and Pathways coordinator, assists in sourcing and fostering relationships with employment partners who are committed to employing Bloom Asia’s program participants when their training is complete.
  • Implement trauma-informed workplace training for employment partners.
  • Spiritual development & life-skills training
  • Identify areas of need within Bloom with opportunities for spiritual development. Plan/outwork activities and training to meet these needs.

  • Assist beneficiaries’ to identify and access faith-based programs and connections within their communities.
  • Integrate ACT with faith.
  • Coordinate visiting specialists to speak into niche spiritual or life-skills areas.
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • English - Good
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Social work or similar psycho-social focused degree or experience.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in networking and partnership building.
  • Experience in collecting, recording and reporting on sensitive case information.
  • Proficient computer skills (especially Microsoft Office programs, Excel & Word) are essential
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
