Consultant for SEL Curriculum Review and Update
- Career Category: Consultancy
- Location: Phnom Penh
Purpose
The purpose of the Terms Of Reference is to review and update ChildFund Cambodia’s Social and Emotional Learning curriculum. As part of the design process for the current project, community mapping within the target communes identified that vulnerable young people in the area lack support to maintain healthy relationships or make healthy decisions and face issues including school drop-out, early marriage, alcohol and drug use, and gender-based violence. The community mapping also revealed that duty bearers and young people themselves lack capacity for young people to participate in and lead consultation on community decision-making such as annual commune investment planning in areas that affect them. The existing curriculum contains modules that cover self-awareness skills including understanding prejudices and biases and emotional regulation, social awareness skills including empathy, identifying strengths and weakness and social norms, relationship skills including respect, confliction resolution and help-seeking, and leadership skills including consultation and action planning.
Drawing on a range of resources including the current SEL curriculum, other SEL curriculum resources ChildFund uses in the region with young people and open-access curriculum resources such as UNESCO’s Comprehensive Sexuality Education, the consultant will create two curricula:
- An 8-day life skills curriculum that promotes healthy relationships and healthy decision-making among young people
- A 3-day leadership skills curriculum that equips youth leaders on team leadership, problem-solving and planning and organisational skills, and builds their confidence to raise their voices and work constructively with duty bearers to achieve solutions that address needs and priorities that young people have identified
The consultant will also conduct
- A 2-day piloting of selected parts of the two curricula with young volunteers with ChildFund Cambodia support (one day for life skills, one day for leadership skills)
