The Cambodian Self Help Demining (CSHD) organization is Cambodia’s only national NGO clearing landmines and UXO. Established in 2008, CSHD, has clearance operations that are based in Siem Reap but also reach out to the neighboring provinces of Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey.

The Communications Officer is a new position for CSHD. It aims to improve the organization’s international profile and diversify revenue streams. As a small national NGO it struggles to attract international donors through a lack of promotion and communication weaknesses. This new position is designed to overcome these obstacles by appointing a talented Cambodian National with the skills to help CSHD met is potential as a National organization.

Position Summary

Context of this Role

This position is open to all Cambodian Nationals or Overseas Cambodians for a two year period (probable extension) and there will be a 3 month trial period. After which, the position will undergo a reassessment. This reassessment should allow for this to be a more permanent position within the organization provided value is obtained within the 2 year period.

The position is based in Siem Reap with some travel required. This position offers a very good compensation package to the right person.

Full Mine Action training will be provided so that the communications officer can work effectively in this field.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • The main language for communication will be English. The communications officer will form part of the management team whose main role and duties are as follows:
  • Conduct marketing strategy workshops.
  • Produce annual marketing plans.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.
  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services.
  • Prepare grants and proposals for potential funding institutions.
  • Prepare and submit all Donor reports.
  • Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand, and coordinate publicity events as required.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • This position is for Cambodian Nationals or overseas Cambodians only as proficiency in both Khmer and English is essential. Additional requirements for the role are as follows:
  • Some background or qualifications in marketing.
  • A very high level of written and spoken English and Khmer.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
