BOOKBRIDGE was incorporated as a tax-exempted foundation in Basel, Switzerland in 2010. BOOKBRIDGE GmbH was setup in Neumarkt, Germany to separate its impact investing activities from its action learning programs that challenge the participants to step up and take real responsibility as a social entrepreneur in the field and work with a diverse team to co-create a tangible social enterprise to improve job and life chances of a deprived community. The GmbH is fully owned by the BOOKBRIDGE Foundation. The Foundation has closed partnership agreements with its country organizations and social enterprises that are all legally independent institutions in their countries to run its action learning programs.

We are looking for a social entrepreneur with a great passion to establish a business for social good.

  • Do you have a great business idea which solves a clear social or ecological issue in your community?
  • Are you interested in setting up and running your own social enterprise?
  • Do you have a strong passion to make a difference?
  • Are you aware of what it means to earn your salary yourself by running your enterprise?
  • Do you have a strong connection to and are inspired by serving your community?
  • Do you know how to network and motivate others to support you and your ideas?
  • Are you Cambodian and do you have a good proficiency of English?

What do we expect from you?

  • Comply with the BOOKBRIDGE Social Business Fund agreement
  • Fully participate in our capability program working with a team of professionals and our program coaches. This includes participation in all sessions as well as acting as key contact for the team of professionals throughout the program
  • Treat your team members, both local and international, as co-creators and assist your local counterparts to build relationships with the international team after module 1
  • Send monthly reports to your investor and your team after your social enterprise opened
  • Attend bi-yearly update calls until the loan has been repaid
  • Contribute to the Community Hero Guidelines by sharing your best practices in running the social enterprise
  • Contribute to workshops, share your lessons learnt and best practices with other community heroes
  • Follow the BOOKBRIDGE Design Guidelines
  • Follow BOOKBRIDGE Vision, Values and Code of Conduct

How does it work?

  3. Upon review of your application, the Country Partner will conduct a video interview
  4. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews with our social entrepreneurs and will be visited by the Country Partner
  5. Top candidates will be invited for a final panel interview with BOOKBRIDGE Board, Leadership Team and Alumni
  6. If you are selected as a social entrepreneur, we visit your community as a next step. In a community meeting, we will take time to understand the current situation and the perceived needs of the local people. Based on this, we compile a briefing note which serves as a basis for the program. We will recruit additional local candidates for the program.
  7. We engage you in a 6-month program, beginning in October 2022 with a team of Cambodians and professionals from abroad to develop your business idea into a functioning social business. Your full-time role as the entrepreneur of the business allows for a high degree of self-responsibility. You earn your salary through income generated from your business with the continued support of BOOKBRIDGE.
  8. We begin the program with a kick-off module in your community. You will get to know your team members and introduce your design challenge. Over the 6-month program, you and your team will turn your vision into reality, resulting in a tangible social enterprise which is run by you as its entrepreneur.
