The Food Technology, Research and Innovation Platform (The Platform or FTRIP), was established as a partnership gathering Cambodian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the food production sector – beginning with the post-harvest fishery production sector – and government organizations, in particular, food/fish regulators – such as, the Fisheries Administration (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries), as well as,the Department of Innovation of Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI).
The Platform is established under the Project CAPFISH Capture, Post-Harvest Fisheries Development project, as part of the “Cambodia Programme for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in the Fisheries Sector” (ACA/2019/408-424) co-funded by the European Union.
The Platform was initially set up as a government-private-academic Partnership with key representatives from:

The Federation of Associations of SMEs of Cambodia (FASMEC).

The current government representation in the Platform as it was established consists of:
The Fisheries Administration (FiA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The General Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (GD/STI) of the MISTI.
Academic and Research Institutions or HEIs
Initial HEI members of the Platform have been identified as:
Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).
National University of Battambang (NUBB).
Prek Leap National Institute of Agriculture (NIA).
Royal University for Agriculture (RUA).
The Platform aims to bolster capacities in applied research of HEIs in Cambodia, with the vision to promote innovation of the food production sector – as its development engine.

Call for Proposals in Applied Research on Development of New Products and Processes in the Post-Harvest Fishery Sector

Scope of the call
This call for proposals in applied research focusing on any one or more of the following areas:
The development of new products and processes in the post-harvest fishery sector.
The development of fish processing solutions with the aim to improve performance and efficiency (e.g., reduction of costs) of fish processing technologies, including the improvement of existing products and processes.
The development of relevant food safety solutions applicable to post-harvest fishery products and processes.
The development of market studies to define marketability, access strategies of products stemming from the post-harvest fishery sector.
The applied research is to be aligned with one or more pillars of the Research Agenda (include Link to Research Agenda) established by the Platform in 2023 and appended to this Call. The research projects and topics already funded from the 1st call for proposal will not be considered for funding during this call. List of funded research is available here.
Funding range: USD5,000-15,000
Applied research proposals can include research programming that encompass activities covering a period from 3 to 9 months (all research activities must end before 30 June 2024).

Submission Requirements
Process of the application: Interested Applicants from the HEIs can join a dissemination workshop hosted by the FTRIP for more information about this call for proposal. The hybrid workshop will be held at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) on 06th September 2023 from 13:30 to 16:30 at Building A, Meeting Room No. 113. For the interested participants who want to join the workshop virtually, please contact iDE for a link to the workshop.
Interested Applicants need to attend the dissemination workshop or call/ email the iDE contact listed below to receive relevant templates including proposal, work plan, and budget templates for proposal development.
Proposals should be submitted to the iDE Phnom Penh office either in sealed envelope hard copy sent to the following address or electronically with all the relevant documentation to the following address provided in the contact details.
Projects should be submitted by 23:59 Cambodia time, 29 September 2023.
Publication of results will be notified through email communication to the PI / Co-PIs.
