BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. It has had an office in Cambodia since 2003. The Contractor will be working on ‘Klahan9 SPACE. It aims to support young Cambodian people to improve their life by providing information about employment, economic security / opportunities and negotiating with family and other decision makers around jobs.

Assistant Producer (1 Position)

Position Summary

Type of Contract: Fixed term staff

Contract Duration: 3 months

Location base: Phnom Penh with frequent travel to the provinces

Objective

The objective of this assignment is to perform all tasks related to support at every stage of the production process during the shooting and show under the Producer/Director.

Expected Outputs

The Assistant Producer supports the creation, production and editing of allocated episodes or segments of TV and digital output, providing support at every stage of the production process - including research and pre-production, location or studio filming and post-production. The role works within the production team to ensure that production outputs are delivered on time, to budget and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.

The role is based in Phnom Penh but with travel to production locations across the country as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

Accountability and reporting system

The Contractor will work under the overall guidance and advisory support Producer.

Duration

The Contractor is expected to carry out the assignment over a period of 3 months (1st May 2022 to 31st July 2022)

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • KEY TASKS AND TIMEFRAME
  • Support the development, management and creation of content on a variety of platforms
  • Work effectively to ensure all content is thoroughly researched and is keeping with audience needs and expectations.
  • Ensure that output complies with BBC editorial, technical, design and accessibility standards and that BBC Health and Safety policy is observed.
  • Provide support for pre-production, filming and post-production for allocated TV and digital outputs, working closely to the editorial briefs.
  • Self-shoot creatively and efficiently on location or in the studio, as required. Create innovative, informative and high-quality audio and visual content for social media, with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare effectively for edits and undertake offline editing creatively and efficiently in the available time, with some support from specialist video editing staff.
  • Draft commentary script, support commentary recordings and assist with post-production.
  • Assist with managing filming and edit schedules, in close liaison with other members of the production team.
  • Generate ideas, help produce taster tapes and pitch ideas for future series and content.
  • Work within the production team and alongside administration, finance and procurement staff to ensure all purchasing, hiring and contracting is completed in line with BBC Media Action policies and procedures. Understand and comply with the Safeguarding policy and the staff Code of Conduct.
  • The Contractor may be required to work irregular hours, weekends on holidays without any additional remuneration or fee.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A proven record as an assistant producer, preferably for TV/ visual content.
  • Creative flair, with strong writing skills and the ability to structure a narrative.
  • Experience working within a production team on high quality programmes/digital content, with good knowledge of production techniques.
  • Good spoken and written Khmer language skills.
  • Organised, with the ability to prioritise, manage workload and deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
  • Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office. An understanding of the Cambodian TV and digital industries and audiences.
