Junior Consultant
Duties
- Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Representative in Cambodia and the direct supervision of the Culture Programme Specialist of UNESCO Phnom Penh Office, and as a member of the project team composed of the UNESCO Headquarters Museums and Creativity Section (the project coordinator and her team) and the UNESCO Office in Hanoi (Culture Programme Coordinator, the National Programme Officer), scientific coordinators, the exhibition designer as well as the participating museums in Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam, the consultant shall perform the following tasks
- LOGISTIC COORDINATION FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE SUB - REGIONAL EXHIBITION
- Liaison with the participating museums in Cambodia (National Museum, Preah-Norodom Sihanouk Angkor Museum, Angkor National Museum and Eco global museum of Preah Vihear) on a permanent basis (whole duration)
- Establish, in close consultation with the project officer, the designer and the participating museums, a space plan of the exhibition of each participating museum, in conformity with the technical specificities (space, lightning, types of installation); (July-August)
- Establish a budget estimation for the production and installation of the exhibition for each museum; (July-August)
- Establish contracts with each museum, for the exhibition production, inauguration ceremony and education programme (if eligible); (August)
- Participate in the evaluation of the education programme proposals; (July-August)
- Assist the Cambodian scientific coordinator in the verification of the Khmer translation of the exhibition text (August-September)
- Establish a contract and accompany the photographer who will realise the professional pictures of the objects identified for the sub-regional exhibition, in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Preah Vihear (July-August)
- Establish, in close consultation with the project officer and the designer, a contract with a company which will be in charge of producing the exhibition panels and follow closely their work, by checking the proofs; (August)
- When the layout version is submitted by the designer, check the Khmer text formatting and concordance with the English reference texts (September-October)
- BUDGETARY MANAGEMENT
- Track regularly the payments relating to the contracts under the project budget code to keep an up-to-date financial report of the project (whole duration)
- Ensure the good quality of financial proofs and financial reporting of all contracting partners (whole duration)
- ORGANIZATION OF THE INAUGURATION EVENTS
- In close consultation with the UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh, the project officer and other members of the team, plan the dates of the inauguration of the exhibition of each museum, prepare the missions of the UNESCO Phnom Penh Office representatives, and ensure the attendance of high level partner institutions’ representatives (August-December 2012)
- EDUCATION PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION
- Assist the eligible museums in implementing the educational programme (January-March 2013)
- REPORTING
- Report on a weekly basis to the project coordinator and the Chief of Culture Unit of the UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh on the progression of the work. (whole duration)
- OTHER TASKS AS NEEDED AND ASSIGNED BY THE REPRESENTATIVE
Requirements
- Cambodian national
- Education: essential: BA degree in art history, history, archaeology or museology, familiarity with art terminology (Hinduism
- Buddhism). Desirable: Higher education (MA)
- Competencies: essential: Computer literacy in Word, Excel, PPT, and use of other common office tools. Desirable: In Design and Photoshop
- Experience: essential: at least three years of experience in project management and administrative positions. Desirable
- Experience in the UN System
- Languages: Proficiency in written and spoken Khmer and English. Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language (French)
- Interpersonal skills: ability to work in a multicultural team, Curiosity, openness, able to work according tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal communication, coordination and problem solving skills
